Building Financial Confidence for Belgian Families

We started Ouralex because we kept meeting parents who felt completely lost when it came to investing.

Not because they were careless or uninterested. They were smart, hardworking people who just never learned how to make their money work for them. And that felt wrong to us.

How We Got Started

Back in 2019, we were running workshops on basic financial literacy in Brussels. The response surprised us. People showed up—lots of them—with notebooks and questions. Real questions about savings accounts, index funds, retirement planning.

What struck us most was how many parents felt ashamed that they didn't know this stuff already. One guy told us he'd been putting off investing for 15 years because he didn't want to look stupid asking basic questions.

That's when we realized the problem wasn't a lack of information. You can find investment advice everywhere online. The problem was that most of it assumed you already spoke the language. It jumped straight to strategies before explaining the fundamentals.

So we decided to create something different. A place where you could learn about investing without feeling like you'd walked into a conversation that started three hours ago.

What Makes Our Approach Different

We're not trying to turn you into a day trader or convince you to gamble on cryptocurrency. We focus on practical investing strategies that actually make sense for families.

Plain Language

We explain things the way you'd explain them to a friend over coffee. No jargon unless we absolutely need it—and when we do use it, we tell you what it means.

Belgium-Specific Context

Tax rules here are different. Retirement accounts work differently. We don't just copy advice from American websites and hope it applies.

Realistic Timeframes

Building wealth takes time. We talk about years and decades, not quick wins. If that sounds boring, well, boring usually works better than exciting when it comes to investing.

The People Behind Ouralex

We're a small team based in Tournai. Most of us have backgrounds in finance or education—sometimes both. What we all share is a genuine interest in making investing less intimidating.

Financial Education Lead

Laszlo spent twelve years at a Belgian bank before he got tired of selling products people didn't need. Now he writes our course materials and tries to make compound interest sound less dull than it actually is.

Thibaut came from the education sector and handles most of our program planning. He's the one who insists we test every lesson on real people before we publish it.

What We Believe

Education Over Sales

We don't sell investment products. We don't take commissions. We teach you how things work so you can make your own decisions.

Long-Term Thinking

Quick money schemes don't interest us. We focus on strategies that have worked for decades and will probably keep working for decades more.

Honest About Limits

We can't predict the market. Nobody can. What we can do is help you understand how different approaches work and what tradeoffs they involve.

Visit Us in Tournai

Our office is in the center of Tournai, not far from the Grand Place. We run in-person workshops there a few times each month, usually on Saturday mornings.

But most of our work happens online. Our main programs start in autumn 2025 and run for several months. That gives people time to actually absorb the material and ask questions as they go.
